Keys to Achieving Impeccable Permanent Lip Makeup

For many, achieving that perfect look means having flawless makeup. Permanent makeup (PMU) can make this a reality, offering a way to skip the daily application routine. Unlike tattoos, this makeup isn’t forever, thanks to the pigments being placed closer to the skin’s surface.

Lip PMU is a true time saver, eliminating the need for regular lipstick or gloss application.

Getting predictable results and the expected effect depends on a few important things:

  • Experienced PMU artist. The outcome hinges greatly on the skill of the artist. Opt for studios and artists with years of experience in the field. It’s essential to see their experience with the specific procedure you’re considering, and any industry awards can be a big plus.
  • High-quality pigments. Pigments in permanent makeup are not just consumables. Even a highly qualified artist may not be able to do a decent job with low-quality pigments. The important property of pigments is color retention after healing. The higher it is, the more accurate the color, and the smaller number and frequency of touch-ups will be necessary. BROVI pigments for PMU offer some of the highest color retention rates on the market today. This is confirmed by tests, reviews, and thousands of treatments performed around the world.
  • The right tools. The tools used, their quality, and how they are handled, all contribute to the final result. Each area and type of treatment requires an appropriate needle thickness. A good machine will make the artist's work easier and relieve the client from uncomfortable sensations.

How is Permanent Lip Makeup Done?

Permanent makeup, or skin micropigmentation, is a sought-after beauty treatment. During this procedure, a specialized artist uses a machine equipped with thin microneedles to embed a colorant—pigment—into the upper layers of the skin. This technique is nearly painless, making it ideal for the sensitive skin of the lips.

The resulting shade of the lips can either be natural, by selecting a pigment closely matching the client’s lip color, or more vibrant to achieve the desired aesthetic. With adequate care, permanent makeup can retain its allure for up to 12 months before requiring a touch-up.

Benefits of lips PMU

The escalating popularity of PMU can be attributed to numerous advantages it offers:

  • Long lasting effect. You only need to renew your PMU once a year.
  • Color stability. Unlike regular lipstick, the pigment does not wear off throughout the day and does not need to be reapplied.
  • Ability to correct natural imperfections. PMU can rectify asymmetry, enhance lip contour, and conceal minor flaws.
  • Removability: Unwanted PMU can be removed with laser treatment or a remover.
  • Time Efficiency: There is no need to constantly apply and correct makeup in the same area.
  • Volume Augmentation: A feature particularly trendy among the younger demographic.
  • Enhanced Appearance: Lips appear juicier and brighter, imparting a fresher facial look.
  • Near-zero risk of complications: Especially when the procedure is done by a trusted artist in a reputable studio.
  • Minimal Discomfort: Anesthetics are used to ensure a pain-free experience.

Modern Permanent Lip Makeup Techniques

Various implantation techniques exist to cater to diverse aesthetic preferences, including:

  • Aquarelle lips
  • Ombré
  • Lipstick effect

The artist tailors the technique and pigment shade according to individual client requirements.

Lip Healing Time (+ photo)

The recovery period lasts about a month. The final result can be assessed only after tissue regeneration. The duration of this period can be influenced by the individual characteristics of the body, the technique used and the skills of the artist.

Permanent lips makeup healing day by day

Healing Stages:

  • Contact with water should be avoided for 7 days after the treatment. Crusts appear around the third day; this period may be accompanied by discomfort and minor itching. To eliminate unpleasant sensations, lips can be blotted with a cotton pad soaked in chlorhexidine. Initially, the result may appear too saturated, but this saturation subsides as healing progresses.
  • During the first 7 days, crusts appear and disappear on their own. There is no point in removing them, as the colorant may come off with them.
  • Once the skin is completely regenerated, the final color appears. Gaps may appear in some areas. Crusts, tightness, and dryness disappear after 3 weeks.
  • A month after the treatment, a touch-up is needed to eliminate gaps. At this point, you can enhance color vibrancy if necessary.

Post-Treatment Lip Care

For the initial three days post-procedure, abstain from drugs influencing blood coagulation. Also, refrain from saunas, swimming, and intense physical activities for two weeks to prevent pigment washout. Avoid lip contact with water until full tissue regeneration., otherwise the result may be unpredictable.

Lip PMU Longevity

The pigment's durability is influenced by the implantation technique, skin type, and the artist’s skill. Typically, the effect persists for about a year. To ensure long-lasting effect, you must use sun protection cosmetics and follow the artist's recommendations.
